Bore Measuring

Is this poem good? I wrote it three years ago, and just found it now?
It is based on a plaque I saw in Paris honoring a resistance fighter who died during the Liberation of Paris.
Falling
How long has it been?
Since the trees last sang,
And, caressed by the wind,
The church bell rang.
What years have passed,
Since we knew at last,
The string of the harp,
Notes soft, not sharp.
How many days
Since the speakers last stood
Shouting their ways,
In every neighborhood
Glory dies with pleasure,
And we can now phrase
“Length bears no measure,
When the world is set ablaze.”
Good. But I think with your skill that u can do much better.

Shotgun Bore Gauge 20/28 Ga. Bore Gauge $94.99 Don't guess or estimate the internal bore diameter when you can know the exact measurement down to one-thousandth of an inch. Inexpensive accurate precision micrometer makes accurate measurements of bore choke constriction or forcing cone length. Plus it will easily show bent or damaged barrels on used guns. Very easy to use: zero the micrometer with the gauge-setting ring then insert the gauge end into the barrel. The micrometer will read the exact inside diameter in thousandths of an inch. Mfg: Skeets SPECS: Brass tool head hardened steel measuring bearings aluminum micrometer housing phenolic resin external shaft cover. 16" (40cm) overall length. 13-½" (34cm) maximum measuring depth. Includes 1 gauge setting ring for each gauge listed and complete instructions. |

Cylinder Bore - How to Measure.mp4
How to measure distances such as depth of sea level or diameter of Earth?
A question from my textbook:
"It is easy to measure the length of a pole or the diameter of a ball bearing, but how can one measure vast distances such as the depth of the sea or the diameter of the Earth?"
In a word, we measure things we cannot measure directly by indirect means. And there are many means for doing this. Here are just a few.
We measure the distance to specific stars by comparing their relative magnitudes to their known absolute magnitudes for that kind of star. And when we know the stellar distances, we know the distances of the galaxies those stars reside in. We can also use trig to observe the so-called parallax of the closer stars and calculate their distances from those optical measurements.
We measure the distance to reentry vehicles entering the Earth's atmosphere by knowing the speed of a transmitted radar signal is always c; the speed of light, so the distance to the vehicle m is S = ct/2; where t is the measured time between transmission and reception of the signal back at the radar station.
We measure the depth of water by knowing v, the speed of sound in the water, so the distance S = vt/2 where t is the time between a transmitted and received SONAR signal. (v is a bit more complex than c, but the sound velocity can be determined.)
We measure Earth's diameter by measuring small portions of it and using geometry and trigonometry to extrapolate to the whole thing. For example, ancient seafarers, when there were wooden ships and iron men, would take latitude readings and measure the arc distances, in nautical miles, along the arcs. Then, by geometry, the radii and subsequent Earth diameters can be determined.
We can also use physics to precisely measure the centrifugal force of Earth's rotation at various latitudes and sea levels to calculate the planet's radius (and therefore diameter) at a specific point on the planet. Early astronomers noted the curvature and arc length of Earth's shadow on the Moon and used that to guesstimate the planet's diameter. Of course, nowadays, with space stations, we can simply take pictures of Earth and measure those using digital means and computers.
So the bottom line answer is, if we can't use direct means, we use indirect means like physics, math, geometry, and trigonometry to measure distances.
