What settings should I set my HD camcorder to for filming in a fluorescent-lit office?

Using a Canon XHG1 and will edit on Adobe Premier Pro CS4. Filming in typical office setting with cubicles. WILL NOT have access to any additional light sources (e.g., on-board camera lighting, soft lights). You can easily find the instruction manual on Google if you want to see the features built into the camera (e.g., white balance).

We're trying to go for a look as in American "The Office" but I know they use additional lighting for filming (though, the first season seemed to be lit differently).

I'm simply asking anyone who has experience filming in an office environment what settings they use on the camcorder (or even in post-production) to achieve the best color.

Fluorescent light is horrible for filming. Unlike incandescent light, fluorescent doesn't shift all the colors, just some of them. Quite often you'll see far more green in fluroescent lit video than you recall seeing at the time of filming.

For best results, you'll probably need two steps. You're using a good camcorder for this.

First, set a custom white balance on the camcorder by filming a white object (bring one with you, if needed), following the instruction manual (pg 63)

Second, when editing the video, you may need to do a color adjustment. I suggest starting with decreasing the green first, then adjusting the red and blue. Unfortunately, not all fluorescent lights have the same color profile, so you'll have to experiment. Applying a filter like this to an entire video is somewhat demanding on the cpu, so don't edit on a wimpy PC.

I just bought and setup the Onkyo TX-SR505.

It has so many settings for sound. How is anyone supposed to know what each and everyone is for?

I have the unit set for Dolby Direct - Which passes through the source signal without much processing. DVD's and Playstation 3 sound FANTASTIC.

DirecTV sounds like crap.
#1 - How do I know if a program or channel is broadcast in Dolby Digital. I would need to know this in order to see if the receiver is working correctly

#2 Currently when I fast forward my DVR, the receiver clicks and switches sound settings. When I press play there is a few second pause and the sound switches back. I don't know what it is switching from and to. The LF and RF are the only speakers working.

BTW - PCM light is on (Whatever that is), Connected through Optical, Directv receiver is set to output dolby.

your on the right track. it depends on what program your watching as to what sound you will get. for example, when i watch a movie on dirctv showtime, it is being broadcasted in dolby digital. its says dolbly digital on my reciever so i no im picking it up. but when i change channels to a non movie or commercial, it goes into prologic.
if your reciever is set to automatically pick up dolby digital correctly, it should say that on the front when it recieves the signal. otherwise, it will go to one of the many surround sound formats you can choose from. all of which are just making the best outta what its given.

#2. the reciever clicks because when you fast forward it temporarily losses the audio signal from the dtv box.

PCM is basically digitally transfer left and right audio only. not 5.1 so if your reciever says pcm, your only getting 2 channel audio.
