Insurance against car parts going wrong.?

Does anyone know of an organisation that insures car components against going wrong or having to be replaced.

I recall the AA having some sort of scheme some years ago but I don't know if they are still running it.

It would cover you for parts that were unaffordable such as engine management systems, diesel pumps and gearboxes etc.

Obviously items like tyres, brake pads, windscreen wipers and exhaust systems would not be included as they are consumable items. I really mean the sort of components that you would not expect to go wrong for the reasonable life of the car and are not covered by the manufacturers' warranty, (usually because they fail after the warranty period expires).

It's called a warranty, sometimes the manufacturers offer it with the purchase of a new car. Sometimes the dealer will sell it to you with a used car, but it's very limited in scope. It's not something that "regular" insurance companies are interested in selling, there isn't enough profit in it, and the claims are a PITB to administer.

It's not something anyone wants to sell on older cars, because, hey, cars wear out! That's why an older car costs less than a new one.

Other than the RAM it looks fine. The processor is perfectly fine as long as you were not hoping to run Vista. If you were, then you are also going to need a board that is upgradable to 4gb RAM b/c you are going to need 2gb just to get started. I cant find where you indicated the manufacturer, if it is Dell then the warranty is worthless, o/w it looks good. 2.8 kb seems kind of heavy but the screen is nice and big so that's probably why. If you are going to use this as a desktop replacement then make sure to get an external mouse and keyboard b/c the ergonomics of laptops sucks.
