Why is the endoscope so big?

I thought it would be small like IPOD ear headsets, and I just saw a video online of a person getting an edoscopic procedure for a stomach problem. They knocked her out, they taped a big plastic thing to her mouth with a big hole in the middle and then the doctor proceeded to push a giant black hose down her throat. HOW IS THIS SUPPOSED TO MAKE ME WANT TO GET ONE? I was horrified!

Now I am more disturbed than before. I thought it was MUCH smaller. Are there smaller ones?

Well, I had one because my throat seemed to be getting more and more closed up so they wanted to see if it looked like cancer. Well, even with it getting smaller when I awoke I didn't feel ANY discomfort whatsoever... none.

It isn't as bad as it looks and the alternative is worse! At least they will know what is wrong and be able to help you. Relax. you don't know what happens and you wake up like nothing happened. You may have a bit of a sore throat for a couple days.
