   Get insurance that covers cracked windshields with $50 deductible and then find a window fixing company that will come out to your house to fix it and wave the deductible. But if you don't have it already, it might be suspicious getting it now and then immediately wanting the windshield fixed. But it always pays to have this coverage.

   As for the clothing, I would buy the jeans at a thrift store. Some of them have a 50% off day near the end of the month. And some of the clothing is like new.The shoes you might have to buy at retail, but sometimes you can find some gently used shoes at the thrift store too. Shop several of them (Volunteers of America, Salvation Army, etc).

   1998 is not too old, but it kinda sounds like my car. It really needs a mechanic to own it. I think I would go with "drive it til it blows" but have AAA card for when it does and you need towed. Lower control arm might be a problem, depending on how bad it is you could lose control of the car on the freeway. The door handle depends on how much you take passengers places. It is aggravating. Maybe you can find a nearby handyman/mechanic who is said to be good, cheap and unemployed? But make sure someone knows their work is good.

   With your wages, you need to try to maybe get a cheap good used car with that money if you can. Even if it is a gas guzzler, but try to find one that saves gas. Maybe an older Toyota or Honda. Either find someone you know or a neighbor or a friend of a friend who is selling a car or check in a local paper that advertises people selling their own cars and get someone to go with you (maybe your father, a cousin or a friend). Test drive it and if you can you might want to have your mechanic check it out and maybe get a Carfax report on it to make sure it hasn't been recalled or crashed. But sometimes you can just test drive it and go with your gut feeling. Beware of older cars with less than 12,000 miles per year used as they might have bad brakes or something like that why the person didn't drive it too much.
