External oil pump pressure relief question?

In order to fit a Ford motor into a car for which it was never designed, I have reversed the sump, ditched the internal oil pump and fitted an external gear pump. In the US Peterson manufacture a remote oil pressure regulator for use in Nascar and other motor sports useing dry sump set ups but as I am in Australia I cannot buy a remote regulator and so I have machined one up and have used the spring and poppet from the original Ford oil pump and made it adjustable. In the Ford oil pump the leakage past the poppet flows to the pump inlet, is this the best place for me to plumb this too or is it better to run it to the rocker cover or the sump. My concern is the oil above the poppet may restrict the sudden movement of the poppet and may be affected by vacuum pressures in the suction line.

This is fine as long as you know the oil that is vented will not build up in the line and will flow freely back to the inlet, but this could be a problem with any of the arrangements that you mention.....it all depends on the location of the pump.
I would be tempted to relieve the vented oil thru the rocker cover.

Why does my pool/water-fountain pump shut off?

When I turn on my pump for the pool water-fountain it will run for 30 seconds or 4 minutes or anywhere in between then it just shuts off. I push the remote on button on again and it runs for a few seconds. Sometimes it will run for a while longer but mostly short durations. Thanks in advance for your help.

Contrary to another poster's reply, if it were an electrical problem and there was a larger than acceptable load (draw) on the electrical system, the breaker switch would click off as the amperage from the pump or wiring would create too great a draw. That is what breaker switches are for.

It is likely that you have a vacuum leak or something plugging a line. Check the filter basket ... check the pool water return lines from the pool to the pump. Bleed air out of the filter.

If those don't work, it would be time to call a pool service.
