How can I get surround sound on aux source for my Magnavox home theatre system?

Ok so I got this home theater system and I can't figure out how to get my xbox 360 to get surround sound on it. I plugged my 360 into the VCR in jacks on the system but it only plays in 2 channel. The Model number is MRD510 so yeah I don't know if anyone else has this surround system or not. So it's probably a piece of shit that I'll have to return to target disgruntled. But yeah any help would be appreciated. ALSO I did do a tone test every speaker works it just doesn't do six channel in aux so if there is something I did wrong (besides buy the damn thing) then I'd appreciate any help fixing it. Well if your Home Theater System has an optical plug on the back, all you do is just get a Digital Optical plug to plug into your XBOX 360 to the system. But I do think that it won't work on a AUX source. I tried looking up your model number and came up with nothing.

Is it a 6.1, 7.1 receiver? Sometimes the older ones don't contain true capable 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. How long have you had this system?
