Power Supply Question?

The time has come when i need to upgrade my power supply to be able to use my 280GTX. I know a good amount of info about computers but I know next to nothing about power supply replacement. Here are some of my Questions:

How do I know this new power Supply will fit?
How do i know it will come with the right Connections?
How do i know the wire will be long enough to reach?
How do i know I'm not getting rubbish?

My Computer is an HP Pavilion d4995t

Also, I'm not looking for cheap rubbish from sites that "guarantee" That their power supply will fit your HP Pavilion. I heard they were crap, light, and would die soon.

I want a power supply that's 650+ Watts.

Even if you cant answer all the questions please leave what you know. Also if you want to do a little research and find a Power Supply that 650+ Watts with a 12v Rating of 26V or more that will fit my computer, i will be grateful.

every power supply is the same size but has different wattage, i believe the standard power supply is 300 and unless you get one of the most high end gaming computers you wont need a 650 watt so i suggest something thats about 400 watts (i run basicly the same on a custom pc with 300 watts) you just have to check their effency

recent (past few years actualy) are compatable with the hard drives and motherboard

if you have a mid tower case thats about 22 inches tall then you need extention cords (4 pin custom molex cables that you can get off frozencpu.com for $5 each)

Couple of questions regarding Power Supply and Video Cards...?

2. When buying a power supply, is it buy any and matches or you need to take a look at cords and dimensions and stuff?

4. Is a fan better then heatsink? How exacly does a heatsink work?

1. Based on the user feedback it looks good. Ultra is one of the better known manufacturers

2. As long as you are working with a mid to full size case, most all power supplies will fit the standard opening in the case. If you get into some of the smaller cases you may want to check with the individual manufactures to verify fit.

3. I would choose the XFX with the 7300 GT. More memory = more graphics

4. If you are talking CPU cooling then both. A heatsink basically is a large piece of metal that is "attached" to the CPU with thermal compound to transfer and absorb heat from the CPU. By placing a fan on the heatsink you can increase the efficiency of the cooling to the CPU

5. SLI is Scalable Link Interface. It is a development of Nvidia to allow multiple video cards to coordinate their processors to handle advanced video tasks. It allows the cards to combine processing power to increase the rate of frames generated to games.

6. That TV out port allows an S-video cable to be connected to the card and then connected to the input of a TV/video display to provide signal to the display. You could show on a large screen TV with an S-video input what was happening on your computer screen.
