Is this a good beginner telescope?

Sky-Watcher 90mm Refractor Telescope with AZ3 Mount.
With 180x magnification. (1 eyepiece only)
Single axis motor drive (please tell me what that is)
f/10 speed
45 degree diagonal (will this allow terrestrial viewing??)

Another telescope:
Sky-Watcher 153mm (6'') Dobsonian Telescope

So....should i get the first one or the second??
They are both $300

The single axis motor allows the telescope to follow an object an compensate for the Earth's rotation (thus allowing astrophotography). However, remember that every dollar spent on a motor is a dollar sacrificed for better optics. If you are a beginner, then a motor drive wouldn't be very useful. Astrophotography costs thousands of dollars to get a proper telescope and equipment. Most amateurs just want to see an object for a few minutes, then move on. To top it off, that telescope is too weak for astrophotography.

Take that Dobsonian without any hint of fear. It won't be useful for terrestrial viewing, but that's not what it's made for. It's made for turning small, dim objects many times brighter in the night sky.

Also, 300 dollars is expensive for such a small refractor. Without a motor drive, a 90mm refractor usually costs between $170 to $200, depending on the quality. Would you be willing to dish out an extra $100 just to be able to turn your telescope a different direction?

Two Axis Panning Timelapse Head for DSLR (ready to buy)

What is the very bright object I see in the southwestern sky (33 latitude) every night now for almost a week?

I am located at about 33 degrees latitude in Southeastern U.S. Also, this object appears about 7:30 P.M., and has been appearing for the past few nights. It passes through the sky fairly rapidly moving positions within a few minutes, as I tried looking at it through a telescope and with binoculars.

many here stated Venus, but you mentioned it moves rapidly, moving positions within minutes?
in that case it might be a satelite.
