Will old Olympus lenses work with their DSLRs?
My parents have an old Olympus OM10 which is broken. They've decided the time has finally come to upgrade to a new DSLR and were wondering if their older Olympus lenses using the OM system would work with the current model DSLRs from Olympus or not?
Olympus dSLRs use a completely different mount from their film cameras, which mean they won't attach "naively". However there are adapters one can use.
A couple things worth noting:
-First, Olympus dSLRs use a "2x crop". This means the sensor is roughly half the diagonal length of a 35mm film. As a result a 50mm lens, for example, will act more like a 100mm lens (in terms of what is seen). This also means that if your parents want to shoot wide angle, they may need to purchase new lenses.
-Second, the viewfinder in modern SLRs isn't equipped for manual focusing. They don't give an accurate enough Depth of Field to precisely focus f/2 or faster apertured lenses. Fortunately the live view function, which lets you compose through the LCD instead of the viewfinder, found on all modern Oympus dSLRs provides an aid here.

Why is the Model LI-42B Battery Pack for my Olympus Camera PUFFING? Is it dangerous? ?
I have an Olympus Camera with a Model LI-42B Battery Pack.
I haven't used my camera in a while so I charged the battery then pulled it out of the charger and put it on my desk. I don't remember how long it has been sitting there...
I got it to try and use it and the sides are puffing out!
It won't fit in the camera any more!
I'm afriad that it will burst... If it does, what does that mean?
Is it dangerous?
I put it in a plastic baggie just in case but I'm worried and PISSED that the GOOD battery that came with my camera has crapped out so soon.
What does this mean?
That is not good at all. It seems like the battery is defective, or damaged. You should return it to the company for a replacement battery. Check you manual or the company website for service directions on returning the battery.
