How to reduce fle size when copy video from handycam to pc?

I have Sony HC32 handycam. When i try to copy the video from tape to pc it chops the video in 10mts segment and each segment is 4GB capacity. Can any one help me to reduce the file size? (In sony service centre, they are copying the entire tape in single CD).

The HC32 is a MiniDV camcorder - the video files take up 13 GByte / hour of video. The reason it's so big is that it's relatively uncompressed - you've got nearly all the video data, so you can edit it without degrading the quality. The normal workflow is to capture the video, edit it and then output it in a compressed format suitable for putting on DVD, emailing or whatever.

FWIW, I think Sony will be putting the video on a DVD, not a CD.
