Federation Square, better known as Fed Square among locals, is a cultural district in Melbourne, Australia. Built above active railway lines and based on a concrete deck, the square includes two open spaces merging into each other, known as the St. Paul's Court and The Square, as well as the covered space, named The Atrium. A series of buildings housing art galleries, cinemas, a museum, exhibition space, restaurants, shops, bars and many more entertainment and leisure venues are located around the Federation Square.

Contained within approximately an entire block, the Federation Square is bordered by the Yarra River and Swanston, Flinders and Russel Streets. The open public squares are right opposite St. Paul's Cathedral and Flinders Street Station. The historic central district of Melbourne is joined to the Yarra River and a new park, Birrarung Marr, completing the square's layout. This reconcentrated effort to link the river with city is part of the Southbank development, which is an on-going project since the late 1980s.

The Federation Square site was once used for various purposes, most recently as the Gas and Fuel Buildings, Princes Bridge Railway Station, Jolimont Yard and for a morgue during the 19th century. The current design of the square was done by Don Bates and Peter Davidson of Lab Architecture Studio, as subsequent to a design competition held in 1997, which received 177 entries in total.

Additional to the myriad shops, restaurants, cafes etc, the Federation Square houses several cultural facilities within the premises. These include the Australian Center for the Moving Image (ACMI), Ian Potter Center: NGV Australia, BMW Edge Amphitheater, Melbourne Special Broadcasting Service (SBS), Champions: Australian Racing Museum and Hall of Fame, National Design Center and The Melbourne Tourist Information Center.
