Need help learning about my Panasonic PV-GS16 Digital Video Camcorder.?

Hello, please help me out. I am kinda confused and overwhelmed with my camcorder. It is a Panasonic PV-GS16 Digital Video Recorder. It has a cassette and san disk. I have captured video on the camcorder and I am ready to transfer. I don't know the first thing about transferring video to my laptop. I tried a few things but I am still confused and unsuccessful. Yes, I have read the manuel. I would like to know how to get video from the camcorder on to my lap top. Please no dumb answers. Thank you so much!
I am using a HP laptop, HP Pavillion dv2000, and Windows Movie maker. I tried connecting with the USB from the lap top to the dv opening in the camcorder. No luck. Wmm can not find any devices. What am I doing wrong! Please help.
I am pretty sure I am using a Firewire cable, but where in the world on my lap top is a Firewire opening?

The Panasonic PV-GS16 is a miniDV tape based camcorder. Transferring video from the miniDV tape to your computer uses the DV port on the camcorder which connects to the Firewire port on your computer with a firewire cable. USB will not work.

If your computer does not have a firewire port, you need to add one. Since you did not tell us what computer you have, we have no way of knowing whether your computer already has a firewire port, or if adding one is possible. But, if your laptop has a PCMCIA slot,

Firewire, IEEE1384a, i.Link and DV are all the same thing. When the camcorder is connected to the computer with the firewire cable, and the camcorder is plugged into the AC adapter (you don't want to be on battery power when inporting video), and the camcorder is in "Play" or "VCR" mode, Launch your video editor and "Capture" if you are using MovieMaker (Windows) or "Import" if you are using iMovieHD (Macintosh)

USB is used ONLY for transferring stills from the memory card. USB cannot import DV from the miniDV tape.

Panasonic NV-GS60 help?

Hi there,

I have a new Panasonic NV-GS60, and because my Uncle came, I wanted to record some stuff onto the cam so the others can watch it too.
What I am thinking is, to put it on a DVD. However...This Panasonic camera (video) comes with this "Sony Mini DV Digital Video Cassette"

After recording all of it, I put this cable into my PC, and I could view the videos I recorded straight from the cam to my PC.

My real question is...I want to copy this video on to a DVD or CD, whichever one works best, so it's easier and can be viewable on a Television on another computer.
When I view it, it's just a small box with the video inside it but no 'edit' options...

Any help would be magnificent, and all credit for this help goes to all the answers.

the only way to get the video onto your computer is via Firewire (IEE1394) you will need a firewire card and cable, check you device manager to see if you have one, if you do then you need a cable normally 4 to 6 pin. if you dont have the card then you need t get one. they are not expensive, and easy to fit, for both card and cable $40 ish you can pay more.

once fitted then you can capture the video Via windows movie maker, turn the camera on to play/edit, fully rewind the tape. windows will sort all the drivers out for you. open WMM and go to capture follow the screens until you get to the capture page, looks like a small screen, you do not need to do anything to the camera you can control the camera from your pc. press capture and off you go.

once its on your computer ( it will do it in real time, 5 minutes takes 5 minutes) you can add music. you may be using another editing package that will do the whole process for you from editing to burning the DVD.
