Why do bands put mics on amps?

I see that a lot of bands use mics to power everything. For instance, their amplifier stacks have mics on them to amplify that sound, as well as the drums (which have several mics).

I know all the vocal mics are run through a P.A. System, but can I ask.. what exactly are the instrument mics run through? Are they run through a P.A System as well? And if they are, are they run through the SAME P.A. System the vocal ones are?

They all run through the same PA. You mic drums for obvious reasons, they are not an amplified instrument. You mic guitar/bass/keyboard amps because if they turned up enough that you could hear them out front, the stage volume would be too high and the amps would be bleeding into the vocal mics, not to mention the fact that everyone on stage would soon be deaf. All mics, vocal and instrument, run into what is called a snake. It is basically a wiring harness with balanced inputs on one end and out puts on the other. All mics plug into it, and it plugs into the mixing board out front.

How to Properly Setup a Small PA (Mackie SRM 450 Powered Speaker with a Microphone)

How do you organise your electronic Instrument's wires from becoming tangled mess or ugly pile?

Stepping into my Room looks like the server room of cable provider

I have about 6-8 power bricks (adapters)
about 4 headphones ( phone/ in ear, over the ear.. )
about 5-6 usb devices with usb cables and a 5.1 surround system with bunch of wires leading to inputs and speakers.

all this in a small home - work/den setup
how do i organise without spending much time untangling and concealing the wire mess.

the setup is not living room .. to connect and forget.. like the back of Tv, I keep connection and disconnecting stuff..

This is gonna sound kinda weird but the things girls use for their toe nails like the little racks the keep their toes pulled apart, I put the Cords in those and top the off with tape that is keeping them from tangling enjoy =]
