Why doesn't my pc recognize my camcorder when it is plugged into firewire?

** I have recently installed a firewire card and the OS has recognized the hardware & tests show it is operating normally. My PC has Win XP SP3, however when I attach the camcorder to the firewire & activate Windows Movie Maker, it fails to recognize the camera after clicking on "capture video from device."
*** I have also used the Device Manger (Control panel/system/hardware), and expanded the IEEE1394 bus controllers and deleted it. Reattached the camcorder (power on in playback mode), and restarted the PC. After rebooting, the OS recognized the new hardware and I have activated the Win Movie Maker program, clicked on Capture Video From Device and received the error message, "Camera device not found."

++ How do I resolve this problem & make the PC/software recognize my camera??

Snowwillow has some good suggestions... and questions since you did not provide manufacturer and model information on your computer or camcorder... Yes, it matters.

Also:

1) You did not tell us which firewire card you installed. I have never seen a Dyex work. Belkin and others - but not a Dynex.

2) Have you tried using WinDV to import the video from the camcorder? I have seen it work when MovieMaker could/would not.

firewire issue?

i have a sony dcrhc 90 camcorder. when i connect it with a firewire cable to my pc, a usb controller and dv-vcr is detected but they fail to install. the sony picture package video capturing tool also doesnt detects the camera. what should i need to do to resolve this problem. plz help.
