In a Chevy Cavalier ('97, automatic), is the engine supposed to rock when you shift?

I would also like to know if there were any factory recalls, or other press releases stating something about the engine light coming on frequently for no appearent reason, I would like reliable website sources please ( if you're a certified mechanic these won't be necessary)
When I say rock, I mean when you would shift from park to drive the whole engine would shift to a foward angle and when it is put into reverse it shifts (the whole engine) to the other angle. ( It is not my car, so I do not know its history, but I am thinking of purchasing it)

where should i look for oil leaks?

I have a 1992 toyota celica st automatic. the oil light comes on generally when i am not pressing the gas, and generally only when i am below 35 mph (when i let off the gas) (if i let off the gas when im going 60 the light usually doesnt come on). i havent really noticed any other trends. I have no idea what to think.
the oil was changed 2400 miles ago and had dropped to about 1/2 full, and sometimes it seems like i can smell the oil during and after driving.

Is the leak the source of the light?
Why does the light go off when i raise the rpms?

At higher R.P.M. s the oil pressure is higher and flows more freely. This free flow of oil can be enough to connect the oil pressure sending unit contacts and will cause the contacts to break when pressure drops activating the dash lamp.

The leak is not the source of the light but the lack of pressure is. Low oil level causes the low pressure activating the light.

There are several seals and gaskets that could have failed allowing the oil to leak out. Best scenario is start with a thoroughly cleaned engine. After cleaning, crank and watch for drips under vehicle then trace drip to source.

Any local detail shop can properly clean the engine for you or you can do it yourself at a car wash. If self cleaning, go to auto parts store and purchase a large bottle of Mean Green (with a sprayer attached). Please wear eye and hand protection when in contact with this chemical. Follow directions on label.

Please fill oil before driving anywhere.

Additionally if you are in the mood to learn a little about your vehicle. I would suggest a Chilton's or Haynes manual on your car. They are year and make specific and cost 20 to 30 bucks at any auto parts store. They are slap full of diagnostic and repair information and is the best tool you can get for yourself.
